Because he killed a too pushy admirer of his wife Charlotte, Nicolas Philibert had to run away to America. As kids, an old Gipsy lady predicted that Nicolas Philibert would face success in a new world, and his wife was told that she would have a prince, as her husband. In South Carolina, Nicolas became rich and met Margaret Davison, a rich heir whom he’s like to marry.

Accused of bigamy while attempting to marry, he comes back to France to find Charlotte to divorce, but nothing happens the way he intended.

 

Film culte puisqu’il met en scène les deux acteurs parmi les plus sexy du cinéma français, la sublime Marlène Jobert, beauté rarement égalée sur terre, et le charmeur Jean Paul Belmondo, l’une des trois grandes figures du cinéma française avec Delon et Depardieu. Son énergie, sa mauvaise fois et son charme font du film un mélange de drôlerie et de véritable histoire d’amour, pour un film en costume mais qui n’est en rien plombant, puisque c’est bien l’humour et l’amour qui dominent ici !
