✰Writers, etc. – Session 33✰

Dominique Varma in conversation with Nilofer Kaul

 Friday, 10th October 2014, 6.30PM

M.L Bhartia Auditorium – Alliance Française de Delhi

Writers, Etc is our literary platform: a space where the written word gets primacy, where written ideas and their practitioners can interact with each other and the general public, coming together to ask pertinent questions and seek their answers: what role does literature play in contemporary societies? How do writers see their responsibilities vis-à-vis the public and, turning that over, how do we see writers? How has the written word adapted to its place among the growing pantheon of varied and addictive forms of cultural transmission? The aim is to encourage a discovery, unencumbered by genre, of all the written oeuvres, ranging from living legends to new and emerging talent.

For our 33rd  session, we are very delighted to invite Dominique Varma who will be in conversation with Nilofer Kaul.

Dominique Varma studied Classics and Literature at the Sorbonne, and has also a M.A. in Indian philosophy and Sanskrit. She teaches at the University of Lille, in the North of France, and for the last twenty years has gone back and forth between India and France. She co-edited a collection of essays entitled Memories of the Second Sex published by Somaiya Publications in 2000. Her first novelShifting Sands was published in English by Penguin India in 2004 and in French as Sables Mouvants by Kailash Editions Paris in 2005. Dominique Varma’s second book of fiction After the Deluge has been published by Rupa in 2014.

Nilofer Kaul is a psychoanalyst and an associate professor of English at Hansraj College, Delhi University.  Her interests include literature, gender and psychoanalysis.
