« You are alive, and there is no cure for it », says a character of Beckett in Endgame, a quote that could be used to describe the flat landscapes of Belgium, the homeland of Bouli Lanners, where his film Eldorado takes place. Nevertheless, behind this depressive background, Eldorado is also both an irresistibly comic and a deeply touching movie.

This ambiguous atmosphere is served by the surprising relationship between the two main characters: Yvan, a dealer of vintage cars, a surly guy with a heart of gold, meets the young Elie while he was burgling him. However, he doesn’t beat him. On the contrary, they become friends and Yvan accepts to bring him back to his parents…
