Mr. Jawahar Lal Sarin - President

did his BA (Hons.) in English, LLB and MA Political Science from Punjab University, Chandigarh. He has done Diploma of the International Institute of Public Administration, Paris under a French government scholarship. Mr. J.L. Sarin joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1967, and worked in various capacities in Punjab and in the Central Government. The last posting in India was as Director Ocean Development, Govt. of India (1981-85). He then joined the African Development Bank, Côte d’Ivoire in 1986 where he worked in various capacities, including Chief of Recruitment, Deputy Director Language Services, and Director Human Resource Management till Oct. 1997.

Mrs. Shashi Banerjee - Vice President

as a post Graduate Degree in English, Education, Indian Classical Dance and Music and a post graduate certificate in the teaching of English language from CIEFL, Hyderabad along with a Sahitya Parishad Certification for the teaching of Hindi and Sanskrit. She has been heading some of the leading educational institutions in Delhi and NCR, and presently is the founder principal of Shiv Nadar School, Noida. With a deep interest in art, culture and innovative pedagogy, her thoughts on education have been published in various weeklies and journals over the past two decades.

is an Income Tax Consultant predominantly handling corporate appeals before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts and Income Tax Appellate Tribunals. Several judgments have been published in various Law Journals. Some of the major clients are: Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd., Asahi Glass, ONGC, Essel/ZEE TV Group, Jamna Auto Industries Ltd. etc. He has been a member of executive committee of the Income Tax Bar Association, Meerut and Income tax Appellate Tribunal Bar Association, Delhi.

Mr. Rajendra Sharma - Treasurer

Mr. Rajendra Sharma is M.Sc.and M.B.A. from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University as well as CAIIB from Indian Institute of Bankers. He joined Bank of Maharashtra as officer in 1979 & resigned in 1993 after working for 14 years in various capacities including 5 years as branch manager for joining Tourism Finance Corporation of India, a public financial institution for catalyzing investment for development of tourism in India, as senior officer. He worked there for about 20 years in various positions like Dy. General Manager, General Manager & Chief Gen. Manager before he superannuated in 2012. He has participated & made presentations in various national & international seminars, conferences, conventions, etc. organized by national & international tourism organizations like FHRAI, TAAI, IATO, WTO, etc. He has been on the board of directors of many companies including listed companies. Presently, he provides consultancy services for setting up tourism projects (e.g. hotels, restaurants, amusement parks, multiplex, etc.) including conceptualization, feasibility studies, costing, structuring / arranging financing, etc.

Mr. Surya Bhatia - Hony. Secretary

Mr. Surya Bhatia - Hony. Secretary

is a Chartered Accountant qualified in May’98. During his two year stint in a CA firm where he worked in the capacity as a partner, he developed a passion for personal finance and started developing experience and expertise in the same. He did certification in AMFI Mutual Fund Testing Program – 2001. Subsequently, when CFP (Certified Financial Planner) was launched in India, he did his CFP via the challenge status. In the year 2003, he started his own wealth boutique firm “Asset Managers” – a financial advisory concern advising on money management principles and over the last 9 years, he has been helping individuals and Small & Medium Enterprise (SME) to create, manage and grow their assets. He has also been doing TV shows more popularly “Let’s talk Money” on NDTV Profit and contributing towards financial literacy through print media by writing articles and columns and is currently writing a weekly column for HT-MINT.

Mr. Harpreet Singh - Hony. Jt. Secretary

Mr. Harpreet Singh - Hony. Jt. Secretary

obtained his B.Com degree from Bhagat Singh College, New Delhi. He studied French at Alliance Française de Delhi upto 6th semester (Diplome level). He also runs a business of interior designing and execution of interiors projects. He undertakes turnkey projects from Government, Semi Government and multinational companies etc. all over India, mostly in Delhi & Mumbai. He is also a member of the poetry society and has composed around hundred poems in English and some in French. His articles and poems have been published in many leading National newspapers and magazines like Indian Express, The Hindustan Times etc. He has served as member of Governing Body, AFD for around ten years and first became its member at the age of 18.

Mrs. Amita Misra

Mrs. Amita Misra

was educated at Delhi University from Lady Shri Ram College and has over 25 years of experience as teacher & Head of Schools. Currently, she is the Vice-President of DPS RK Puram and is a core resource person of the Delhi Public School Society, which runs over 130 schools in India & abroad. As member of the working committee of DPS Society, she advises on vital policy matters. She is also a member of the Managing Committee of DPS Mathura Road, Dwarka, Rohini, Dhakha, and Mangalore. She has trained over 5000 DPS teachers in India & abroad through face-to-face & distance learning programs. She facilitates the various initiatives of DPS Society including educational T.V. Programs, publications, curriculum review etc. She has been a part of professional development programs in USA, UK, Japan & Australia.

Prof. Balveer Arora

Prof. Balveer Arora

received his higher education degrees in History and Political Science from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and Sciences-Po, Paris before doing his doctorate from Paris I (Pantheon – Sorbonne). He did his French language studies at the Alliance Francaise, Paris, and advanced language and civilisation studies at the Sorbonne. He taught Political Science at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (1973-2010) where he specialised in Indian political institutions and federal politics, the party system and policy processes. He was Rector and Pro Vice Chancellor of JNU (2002-2005) and is presently Chairman of the Centre for Multilevel Federalism, Institute of Social Sciences, New Delhi. Dr. Arora has been a visiting professor at U.Penn, Philadelphia, Sciences-Po Paris, Ecole des Hautes Etude en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, and Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (MSH), Paris. He has been a member of the scientific councils of the French Network of Institutes of Advanced Studies (RFIEA) and the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme, Paris. He is currently Vice president of the Transcultura International Institute, Paris. He also serves on the Plan India Board since 2008 and chairs its Governance & Nomination Committee. He was conferred the Legion d’honneur as chevalier in 2011 and had earlier been inducted, in 2003, as officier in the Ordre des Palmes Academiques.

teaches the Theory of Design at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi from where he had graduated in 1975. His activities include a practice in architecture/interior design, exhibition/product design, and installation/screenography, and extend to theatre and film making, a subject which he studied in Paris during a four year period in the late seventies.

Mr. S.K. Misra

Mr. S.K. Misra

is currently Vice- Chairman Emeritus of INTO (International National Trusts Organisation) and Chairman of the Indian Trust for Rural Heritage and Development (ITRHD) and Vice President, Alliance Française de Delhi. In his government career, he served as Secretary to the Ministries of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Agriculture and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister as well as Director-General of the Festival of India in France, the USA, the USSR and Sweden. Post retirement, he served as chairman of INTACH for ten years. In June 2011, along with the number of colleagues from various fields, he founded ITRHD with the two-fold goal of addressing the challenges of preserving India’s tangible and intangible rural heritage: and of connecting the preservation and enhancement of this heritage with economic development and general improvement in the quality of rural life. In 2009, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan for distinguished civil service.

Dr. Mrs. Aruna Vasudev

has a Ph.D. from the University of Paris II for her thesis on “The Legal, Political and Sociological aspects of Censorship in Indian Cinema”. She is the Founder-Director of CINEFAN, the annual Cinemaya Festival of Asian Cinema (now Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival), New Delhi, the Founder-Editor and publisher of Cinemaya, the Asian Film Quarterly (1988-2004) and the Founder-President of NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema). She is the author of “The New Indian Cinema” (1987) – A Book published by Macmillan India, and “Liberty and License in Indian Cinema” (1979) – A Book published by Vikas Publishing House. She is Co-editor of many books, among them:“The World of Kenji Mizoguchi” by Tadao Sato published by Berg, UK; “When Strangers Meet: Vision of Asia & Europe in Film” a book published by Asia-Europe Foundation & Netpac, in SIngapore; “Modernity & Identity in Vietnamese Cinema” a book published in Indonesia in 2003, and many more. She has been involved in many other cinema related activities and has been president or member of juries in film festivals around the world. Apart from her pioneering work in Asian cinema, she has received many awards, some of them are : Chevalier de I’Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Govt., the Korea Prize from Pusan International Film Festival, the Star of Italian Solidarity, Kalpana Chawla Award for Excellence for women in India and many more

Ms. Rohini Rangachari

Ms. Rohini Rangachari

Rohini Rangachari Karnik holds a Masters in French Literature from New York University (1997) and an LL.B. from Delhi University (2001). She holds a Masters in European Business Law from Aix-en-Provence (2002).  She has worked in Paris as a lawyer with the International Court of Arbitration and with Sherman and Sterling from 2002 to 2004.  She has done a summer internship with Gleiss Lutz, a law firm based in Stuttgart, Germany.  In New Delhi she has worked with Dua Associates, J Sagar Associates and Dutt and Menon. Rohini has served as a co-opted member of the Governing Body of the Alliance française from 2008 to 2009. She presently teaches French at St. Stephens College and Daulat Ram College at Delhi University. As a member of the Governing Body of the Alliance francaise, Rohini would like to work to enhance ties between French and Indian people by serving as a resource that people may turn to for assistance in issues relating to France and India.  She would like to foster ties between university students and the Alliance française to enhance the membership as well as to increase the participation of students in French programs.

Mr Jean François Ramon

Mr Jean François Ramon

grew up and went to school in Morocco and in the South of France. He studied at the University of Montpellier where he got a doctorate in French linguistics. During his military service he worked as a civil servant and as a French language teacher in the French Institutes of Bremen and Hamburg in Germany. Then his career continued in two directions. The first one in the world of sciences and the second one in the field of culture management. As an engineer belonging to the CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research), he held project management positions for scientific research. In this context, he was responsible for an important national network of laboratories in the field of human and social sciences. He was also a director of several cultural establishments in France but also in Germany (where he was director  of the Institut Français in Stuttgart) and in Luxembourg (wherehewas cultural adviser  at the French Embassy). Before coming to Delhi he was director of an institution made up of three music venues. One of them is the famous auditorium of the Arsenal, one of the most beautiful concert halls in Europe.

Mr Pierre Yves Meunier

Joined AFD from Sep 1 2014. Prior to joining our institution, Pierre Yves has been teaching French as a Foreign Language and French Culture in many countries like Romania, Turkey, Georgy, Kirghizstan, Austria and France. He has been on assignments as the Academic Director the Institut Français de Varsovie for 4 years (2008-2012). He is known as a trainer who has conducted numerous missions abroad. He has published articles in different specialized magazines and edited CD Rom for pedagogy. His expertise lies in using new technologies in Information and Communication (TICE) connected with teaching French as a foreign language.

Ms Ragini Mehta

Ms Ragini Mehta

was born in Varanasi, did her Masters in French literature in 1982, and soon after entered the professional world. She started her career as Assistant Professor in Jodhpur University and then went to France for a year on a scholarship to do “Professorat” in Besançon. Joined Alliance Française in Oct. 1988 and worked also for six months in JNU. Her association with Alliance is now in its 24th year and ever since she has participated in various training programs of FLE held in Delhi and in France. Business French is her favorite domain and has conducted classes in various companies as external classes of Alliance. She is also associated with Modern School since 1994 as visiting faculty of French language. She is currently the teachers’ representative on the GB. An active sports woman, she was one of the probables of Indian women’s cricket team. She has represented her State in Badminton and her University in Table Tennis.
