Writers, Etc.

Namita Gokhale

in discussion with

Jai Arjun Singh

Following on from the tremendous success of our inaugural event with Vikram Seth and inspired by International Women’s Day, our second session invites the hugely talented Namita Gokhale. Writer, publisher, and director of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Gokhale’s first novel, Paro: Dreams of Passion which scandalized the literati with its candid sexual humour, was published when she was just 28 – and she already had years of magazine publishing under her belt by that point! She is perfect as the voice of the young girl-women, captures with a freshness that stays till the last.

Six novels and countless non-fiction books later, Gokhale’s upcoming novel (Priya: In Incredibel Indyaa) resurrects some of Paro’s unforgettable characters, situating them in Delhi’s toxic and, indeed intoxicating, mix of power and money. Namita Gokhale is also a Director (with Neeta Gupta) at Yatra Books, which publishes original and translated works in English, Hindi, Marathi and Urdu. She has also published the Namita Gokhale Editions as well.Alliance française de Delhi is proud to present this powerfully female doyenne of contemporary Indian literature.
