When an emergency shelter is demolished, what happens to the homeless people who lived there?  DIRECTION HOME follows seven chronically homeless people over seven years until they attain secure housing. The film also chronicles the struggles of activists and service providers who organize tent cities, conduct sit-ins and demonstrations, and enact legislation for decriminalization and prevention of homelessness through a Housing First policy.

The filmmaker, Hilary Silver, is Professor of Sociology and Urban Studies and of Public Policy at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. Her first documentary, SOUTHSIDE, traces the fall and rise of a low-income inner-city neighborhood over its century-long history. She is currently a visiting scholar at the Centre des Sciences Humaines and a Fellow of the American Institute of Indian Studies.

Followed by a panel discussion on the topic of homelessness in India
