Après la mort de sa mère, Junie change de lycée et retrouve son cousin Matthias qui l’introduit dans son cercle d’amis. La jeune fille rencontre Otto, un jeune garçon calme qui tombe amoureux d’elle dès le premier regard. Mais c’est bientôt le professeur d’italien, Nemours, qui vient troubler la relation d’Otto et Junie. La jeune fille est partagée entre le respect qu’elle porte à Otto et sa passion naissante pour Nemours qu’elle tente de refreiner. Le film de Christophe Honoré s’inspire du célèbre roman de La Princesse de Clèves pour qui le sentiment amoureux se trouve emprisonné entre l’honneur qu’elle veut préserver et les sentiments qu’elle éprouve pour un autre que son mari.
Right after her mother’s death, Junie moves to a new High school where her cousin Mathias is studying. He introduces her to his circle of friends. One of them, Otto, falls in love with Junie at first sight but soon Junie’s teacher of Italian, Nemours, comes disturbing the relation between the two lovers. The young girl is torn apart between her loyalty towards Otto and her growing desire for Nemours that she wants to restrain. Christophe Honoré’s film is inspired by the famous French novel La Princesse de Clèves whose feelings are confined between the honour she wants to defend and the passion she feels for another man than her companion.
