As a dance form, electro was invented in the suburbs of Paris in the 2000s. The unique dance style has continuously evolved since then to become synonymous with explosive but precise movements. Join us on an electrifying journey as we bring to you ELEKTRIK – a performance that rewrites what electro-dance means itself.

ELEKTRIK is the brainchild of Blanca Li who is credited as being one of the greatest masters of urban dance.

About ELEKTRIK

ELEKTRIK (2018) is the third exploration of the electro urban dancing style by Blanca Li after the show Elektro Kif (2009) and the film Elektro Mathématrix (2015). With eight performers who have become global references for electro culture and a soundtrack composed in part by Tao Gutierrez, ELEKTRIK represents a formidable concentration of talent in a cheerful and fun show that can be enjoyed with the whole family!

The three-city tour of ELEKTRIK in India is being piloted by Alliance Française de Bombay.

About Production

Blanca Li is a Director, Choreographer, and Filmmaker. Whether she is working with her own company (The Blanca Li Dance Company) or creating events & musicals; staging operas; directing feature films; preparing museum installations or working with circus artists, she creates and produces a multitude of projects. A passionate explorer of all that is new, of cultural mixing, and of constant reinvention; she is inspired by a wide variety of sources – dance, music, new technologies, theatre, cinema, opera, fine arts etc.

Born in Grenada, Blanca Li became a member of the Spanish national rhythmic gymnastics team at the age of 12. At 17, she moved to New York, where she studied for five years with Martha Graham and in other schools including Alvin Ailey’s, Paul Sanasardo’s, and at the Clark Center. Living in Spanish Harlem, she witnessed first-hand the development of hip-hop as it was emerging daily and simultaneously created the flamenco-rap group las Xoxones. When she returned to Spain, she founded her first contemporary dance company in Madrid, which was selected for the program of the Universal Exhibition of Seville.

Blanca Li was the first woman choreographer to join the prestigious Académie des Beaux-Arts of Paris, in 2021.

Blanca Li Dance Company

Having settled in France in 1992, Blanca Li founded her company in Paris in 1993 and has since created many works for her repertoire. In 1998, she opened her own dance studios in Paris (The Calentito Studios). Her creations (including Alarme, Stress, Salomé) are often marked with a fusion of disciplines and genres coupled with a very Latin sense of humour.

The Blanca Li Dance Company tackles a wide range of themes ranging from the Gnawa trance ceremonies of Marrakesh (Nana et Lila, 1993) to ancient Greek art (Le Songe du Minotaure, 1998), to the madness of the contemporary world in the context of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks (Borderline, 2002), to the poems of Federico García Lorca (Poeta en Nueva York, 2007) and the pictorial work of Hieronymous Bosch with Le Jardin des Délices (2009) which opened the Montpellier Danse festival.

Elektro Kif brought the electro dance style to the stage for the first time. A new urban style that had developed in Parisian suburbs in the 2000s, electro soon took the world by storm with its ultra-fast and sophisticated gestures. ELEKTRIK deploys eight virtuosos of electro dance and redefines the codes of the genre. The performance was presented at the Suresnes Cité Danses Festival in January 2018 and is currently on tour.
