‘Inner Terrains’ shows a body of work created over the last four years, drawings in ink and mixed media on paper using Japanese brush-pens, fine artist pens and pastel. They are greatly inspired by the organic and evocative patterns in nature – entangled roots and branches, sea, sand and cliffs. Some works draw from memories of childhood and emotional experiences like birth and death. The visual language expresses a balance between freedom and control. So the initial free and fluid brush strokes of the composition develop into a complex layered textural image. The textural quality of the work reflects her early training in etching in Paris. In other drawings her experience over the decades as a painter also surface.
