12 - Pensées et arrière-pensées

Rudi Pillen (1931-2014) is one of Belgium’s leading contemporary artists, whose outstanding activity stretched over 50 years. Several of his paintings belong to major private collections in Europe, the USA and Asia, as well as museums and public buildings, like the Bangkok Metro where his largest fresco was unveiled in 2001 by HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium. There’s also one at the Brussels Airport.

Pillen’s works show abundant creativity and virtuosity, ranging from expressionism to the colorful and abstract figures from his African and American periods. Mankind is always at the centre of his paintings: the vision of a tormented, but also at times happy, human being.

By all means Rudi Pillen is a remarkable painter and sculptor, whose activity is the perfect expression of half a century of Belgian and international art. Visiting and exhibition of Rudi Pillen’s works is quite a fascinating and gratifying experience.
