About Design X  Design

Design in its many manifestations forms an integral part of every culture. Civilizations evolve and attain their full potential because of it. Design based creative communities in India are witness to a fascinating churning, necessitating a search for a vision that may inform their evolution beyond – spanning education, profession and the industry. Thus, involving exposes, roundtables, exhibitions etc. Design X Design is a step in that direction.

The energy behind the design of a pin or a city being the same, this joint initiative of Alliance Francaise de Delhi and Studio IF is also geared towards raising levels of appreciation within and nurturing connections across various creative communities – architecture, urban/ landscape/ interior design, product/ industrial design, textile/ fashion design, graphic/ communication design etc. Local and global in outlook, it is directed at the initiated and the uninitiated alike.

About the D X D Expose’

A linking bimonthly two hour long activity involves sharing of high quality professional work of designers from Delhi and other cities of India, in a neutral, friendly and open environment . Each Expose’ generally consists of presentations made by two designers, each drawn from habitat design (architecture/urban/landscape/interior design) and non–habitat design (product / communication / apparel design ) respectively, culminating in an open discussion and Q & A.

About the Presenters

>> Gopendra & Malavika Singh (GOMAADS)

Product Designers

GOMAADS is a product design studio sculpting life style products in concrete. An ordinary material always associated with architectural structure now being used to create decor objects. Concrete is a unique material that combines the organic characteristics of natural stone with the ability to be cast into any shape. Using tints and precision blends of admixtures it can be manufactured with a vast spectrum of finishes with striking and sophisticated forms. The versatility of concrete also attracts an abundance of custom contracts. The Studio has produced beautifully crafted bespoke works for leading architects, designers and brands nationally and internationally. GOMAADS pride themselves on their quality craftsmanship and refined design.

Coming from similar backgrounds of architecture and product design respectively Gopendra Pratap Singh, and Malavika Singh Gupta cofounded the Noida based GOMAADS in 2013.

Gopendra graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and is the co-founder of the studio. Gopendra’s inclination has always been towards the elements inside a building rather than architecture as a whole and this led him to pursue a master’s degree in Industrial Design from the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. Ranging from furniture design to lighting design, Gopendra’s repertoire has never been limited by material or function. Inspired by his extensive curated design travels, he has always been intrigued by the concept of minimalism and concrete as a material – its quality, texture, elegance and strength to stand against ceramic and glass as materials.

With a background in interior design, Malavika had always been interested in the milieu of architecture and design. Being a learner and extremely hands on, she had immersed herself into packaging design by exploring various unorthodox materials. Her passion for travel fuelled by experiencing the works of masters like Tadao Ando and Le Corbusier, made her fall in love with concrete. She began by observing how concrete was cast on site. This was followed by year and a half of extensive research, tweaking of the material to make it usable for smaller scale – of designing home products. Honesty in materials has always inspired her and she takes immense pride in the craftsmanship that GOMAADS endorses. Concrete combined with various other materials is GOMAADS new venture. Materials like wood, leather etc. are being used by them to enhance the designs and aesthetic value of the products.
