The Restoration Toolbox is an open-source participatory platform, inspired by the concept of the circular economy to empower citizens to restore their own buildings in the hope to democratize the process of heritage conservation, improve accessibility to expert advice and provide a space for collaboration for citizens and policy makers to better our lives and neighbourhoods. The launch event is focused on discussing the concept of ‘recycling, reusing and refurbishing’ as a design strategy through an intensive panel discussion and showcasing the platform as a tool in this respect.

Speakers of the panel discussion –

  1. Dr. Aishwarya Tipnis – She is an award winning architect, educator and heritage conservationist based in New Delhi, India. She works at the intersection of architecture, urbanism and heritage conservation. In 2016, her work at The Doon School Dehradun and Mahidpur Fort, Madhya Pradesh was recognised by the UNESCO Award for Heritage Conservation in the Asia-Pacific Region. In 2018 she was conferred Chevalier Des Arts et Des Lettre (Knight of the Arts and Letters), by the Government of France for her outstanding commitment to preservation of French Heritage in India. In 2019, she co-founded Jugaadopolis, a social innovation enterprise to work with youth  in making the rich heritage of India relevant to local communities in the contemporary context through a process of co-creation. She is a published author and currently visiting faculty at the School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi.
  1. Mr. Satish Sinha – He is Associate Director at Toxics Link, a leading environmental group working on issues of waste and chemicals. An active campaigner and advocate for sustainable development. He has been part of the drafting committee on Municipal waste Rules 2016 for India. He has made significant contribution towards developing and shaping the E waste Rules. He has worked extensively on issues of Bio medical waste and has supported the Government of Goa set up a Comprehensive waste management facility in the state. Actively engaged in the global negotiations “The Minamata Convention” on Mercury, Consultant with UNEP and WHO on environmental issues. Visiting faculty at International Centre for Environment Audit and Sustainable Development.
  1. Mr. Paras Arora – He started his professional career in the year 2010 with a 9 to 5 job while pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration. After working for 6 years in a corporate job, he finally plunge into starting Doodalge. He always wanted to start a brand of his own and create an impact on the value chain and  tries to do the same at all levels with Doodlage. He is involved in brand building, business operations, and distribution of the brand in the domestic and international markets. In June 2022, he started Phirlo to address the problem of circularity in fashion and has been contributing to creating awareness with various conversations globally about Circular Fashion and is an active participant in the Sashakt Bharat Mission. He aims to interact and brainstorm with young entrepreneurs and  keeps himself updated with what is happening with the solutions and innovations in the start-up community.

 

The Restoration Toolbox is a project within European Spaces of Culture, which aims to test and implement innovative models of collaboration in culture between European actors – EUNIC members and EU Delegations – and local partners in non-EU countries, delivering the EU strategy on international cultural relations. European Spaces of Culture is a Preparatory Action initiated by the European Parliament, implemented by EUNIC in close collaboration with the European Commission and the European External Action Service. EUNIC – European Union National Institutes for Culture – is Europe’s network of national cultural institutes, with 38 members from all EU Member States and associate countries.
