Director: François Ozon

Described by the New York Times as a ‘guilty pleasure’, François Ozon’s 8 femmes is a joyous and bizarre tribute to the musical genre in cinema. Starring 8 of France’s most tremendously talented and beautiful actresses, 8 femmes is set in a large country residence in the days before Christmas. Catherine Deneuve is Gaby, who presides over a chaotic, fabulously dressed household consisting of her mother (Danielle Darrieux), her daughters Suzon and Catherine (Virginie Ledoyen and Ludivine Sagnier), her spinster sister Augustine (Isabelle Huppert), estranged sister-in-law (Fanny Ardent) and two servants, the loyal Madame Chanel (Firmine Richard) and the pouty new chambermaid, Louise (Emmanuelle Béart). The master of the house is discovered dead in his bed, with a dagger stuck in his back, and the murderer must be one of the women in the house of the time. Along the way secrets are revealed in gloriously tumultuous twists and lyrical song. Part murder mystery, part musical, wholly enjoyable!
