About the artist:
Magali is French by nationality but an Indian at heart after spending 18 years in India. She has been able to develop and grow her passion for photography and travels.
The ultimate for her is the ability of finding beauty everywhere and keeping her eyes open for colours, shapes, lines, textures and forms.
She tries to use her camera as a creative tool not only to document or show what is in front of her but to enhance it with the help of light and sometimes with paint or sculptors. This exercise can be tricky and not always successful but what is important is to have fun. She experiences depth of the knowledge from these experiments.
Taking pictures is for her meditation, salvation, relaxation and faith.
About the performers:
The Adivasis (Mundas, Santhals and Oraon) from the region of Chathisgarh; Odisha; Bengal & Jharkhand are born dancers and singers. Their songs and music are joyous and depict the festive spirit that prevails whenever there is an occasion for people to get together. The indigenous musical instruments and the traditional tribal costumes and jewellery worn by the dancers, add to the beauty of the dance.
New Delhi has a work force of around Advaasi’s (tribals) mainly from this region. They organise once a year festivities in the month of September in Delhi, home away from home. They come together on this occasion to dance and sing for each other and re-live & pay homage to the culture that is their own.
The Gurgaon Centre of the Alliance française de Delhi, takes pride in show casing their cultural tradition and heritage along with Magali Couffon’s photography done in the Tribal belt of Odisha.
