Jean de La Fontaine, le défi, directed by Daniel Vigne, is a film based on the life of one of the most widely read and widely loved French poets.
In September 5th, 1661: Fouquet, the powerful adviser of King, is arrested on the order of Jean-Baptiste Colbert. The young king Louis XIV has just become the master of the kingdom.
While the other artists rush to the service of the new monarch, Jean de La Fontaine is the only one to assert support for the fallen chief. The most famous French poet, even in desperate poverty, never gives up his convictions and resists, laughingly observing human folly and writing them into historical and literary permanence…
