Opening of the Francophonie Festival featuring BBC Sound System

Alliance Française de Delhi opens the Francophonie week celebrations with BBC Sound System, the local stars from Senegal, who first shot to fame with the release of their first album “Thioukouly” in 1998. Now based out of Paris this music group, which consists of three young men, is a symbol of the multi-culture and multi-lingual traditions that exists in France and their musical syllables not only convey the worldwide exoticism but are infused to life with the dreams that they carry from Senegal.

Kadou, Mansour and Mao are three artists with different personalities which lead to an explosive association on stage. Through their experiences, the band’s musical maturity has been strengthened allowing them to explore many African melodies like Tassou (the hip hop music’s origin) mixed with raga, hip hop, soul and even salsa rhythms… This music is a traditional and modern African culture fusion played in the Jamaican style and texts in wolof, peulh, mandingue, French and English languages. BBC sound system is not only inspired by their native areas in Dakar; these polyglot artists play easily with words leading to a mixed cultural music.

In 2001, they joined the No Bluff Sound group of artists, where they also met Izm. They received the first prize of “Découvertes du Printemps de Bourges” in 2002. Their releases include “Nabanko” in 2004 as well as an album in collaboration with the No Bluff Sound group, Ben Bop and a solo album by Mansour in 2009.

Having moved from small pubs to the Olympia in Paris (first part of Louise Attaque concert), they have toured for more than 300 concerts in France and in other countries including Belgium, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Holland, China, Burkina Faso and Senegal. On several occasion they have collaborated with famous artists such as Tiken Jah Fakoly, Rachid Taha, Louise Attaque, among others.

BBC SOUND SYSTEM, through their music are constantly is striving to promote the coming together of cultures while preserving their identity and originality.
