L’ATLAS vs. Tanc Exhibition’s collaterals

In town for India Art Summit, our French artist, L’ATLAS, used the physical building of the Alliance française to display enormous photographs (3 stories high!): the manifesto of art against building and back into art.

These photographs were taken by L’ATLAS himself in January 2010 in New Delhi; part of a project called ‘Wandering canvases’ that he has been working on for ten over years. He has travelled to over forty cities across the globe, photographing in each location his abstract canvases in a local context. The final goal of the ‘Wandering Canvases’ project is a visual and textual atlas that maps a universalized, subjective memory onto spatial locations. It testifies, as different from traditional maps, to a profound re-negotiation of geographies and temporalities, playing with notions of fixity and fluidity. The first volume of the project, containing over 400 photographs, will be launched in November 2011 in Paris.

On view till mid-Feb.
