Alliance Française de Delhi and The French Embassy in India will organize the book launch ofShiva et ses 7 danses by Raghunath Manet. Manet was born in Pondicherry. He is one of the greatest Indian artists (dancer, choreographer, musician, composer and writer). He has been bearer of Indian culture to France and to the western world and is famous for male dancing in Bharatnatyam, Indian Classical Dance.

Moreover, he confronts a traditional art to modernity on stage by unexpected encounters with great creators of our time such as Michel Portal, Archie Shepp, Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano, Carolyn Carlson.

Chevalier of Arts and Letters, he is also a researcher at the University of Pondicherry and continues working on Indian Art. The book was published by Tala Sruti and preface by Jean-Claude Carrière. His fourth and last book, written in French, is an introduction to Shiva as a dancer, the god who inspired the French sculptor Rodin. He depicts the inseparable relationship between Shiva and dance, describing the 5 basic functions of Shiva and his 7 dances. The evening will concluded by a musical performance by Raghunath Manet on veena and percussions by Sivamani. Manet has composed music based on theme of Shiva’s dance and recites a concert of Veena, Indian classical instrument on the occasion of this book launch.
