Danyel Waro – the legendary voice of maloya,
the powerful blues of Reunion Island

Saturday, 26 March 2011, 8:00 p.m.

To conclude Francophonie 2011, Alliance française de Delhi presents the legendary Reunionese musician Danyèl Waro and his group for an incredible concert. Waro is
the most famous maloya singer of the island and certainly the most vital Reunionese musician and poet of his generation. By singing creole poetry (and what a way to sing!), Waro makes the blues of Reunion – of sugarcane fields in the mountains and palm trees in the sea breeze – come to life.

This year, he won the prestigious WOMEX award at Copenhagen (previously awarded to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan).

Join us for an unmissable evening!

With: Danyel Waro (lead vocals, kayamb); Vincent Phileas (roulèr, vocals); Damien Mandrin (kayamb, vocals); Sami Pageaux (sati, vocals)

Free admission. Entry on first-come first-served basis.
