Design in its many manifestations forms an integral part of every culture. Civilizations evolve and attain their full potential because of it.

Design based creative industries in India are witness to a fascinating churning, necessitating a search for a vision that may inform their evolution beyond – spanning education, profession and the industry. Thus, involving exposes, roundtables, exhibitions etc. Design X Design is a step in that direction.

The energy behind the design of a pin or a city being the same, this joint initiative of Alliance Francaise de Delhi and Studio IF is also geared towards raising levels of appreciation within and nurturing connections across various creative industries ? architecture, urban/ landscape/ interior design, product/ industrial design, textile/ fashion design, graphic/ communication design etc. Local and global in outlook, it is directed at the initiated and the uninitiated alike.

 

About the presenters

Anuj Prasad, Product Designer Desmania Design Pvt. Ltd.

After completing his B.Tech in production, engineering and working for five years for manufacturing and design engeneering in companies like Crompton Greaves and Modix Zerox in 1992, Anuj went on to do a masters in industrial design at NID. He worked with HCL HP for four years; thereafter, where he had the opportunity to work on products and brands like Beanstalk and Infinity. In 1996, he started the ID division of Desmania.

Desmania is now a leading multidisciplinary design company in the country, offering professional design services across the industry segments. With its core expertise in products, packaging, graphic, and retail design, Desmania now offers strategic design solutions that give measured business success to its clients. Desmania is the recipient NID-BW Design Excellence award and several Indiastar awards for FMCG packaging. It has been rated as a top design company in India by Businessweek (US). Desmania has diversified in the area of toy and outmotive design, with a large integrated design studio in NCR Delhi.

Anuj has been a leading voice of design in the country. He has been a member of CII’s National Comittee of Design for the last three years, and an advisor to the GOI on Implementing the Design Scheme for the MSMEs. He is regularly invited as a speaker of the major design forums in the country.

Jyoti Rath, Architect -Jyoti Rath Associates (JR+A)

After having graduated from the School of Planning and Architecture in 1984, Jyoti Rath worked as a design coordinator on the Golden Eye Exhibition at the Cooper Hewitt Museum, New York, where he had the opportunity to work with designers such as Frey Otto, Charles Moore, Ettore Sotsass, Mario Bellini and Bernard Rudofsky. In 1985, he started “the interior design company”, a practice specialising in products and furniture. The practice moved to comprehensive design projects in 1989, when picked by Mr Joseph Allen Stein to design the interiors of the 75 000 square feet Escourts Corporate Headquarters in Faridabad.

Founder of Jyoti Rath Associates (JR+A), the studio has created signature, design in both public and privates spaces – including corporates, retail, hospitality, industrial and residential sectors. With their problem-solving approach, a keen eye for details and a sensitive contextual response, acquired knowledge of user needs, JR+A adds value to projects through its research and advisory services.
