Memories of My Homeland is an exhibition of paintings, photographs and artefacts by refugees living in India, organised by the Migration and Asylum Project (MAP), on the occasion of their 10th anniversary. The exhibition explores themes of identity and belonging connected with displacement, and seeks to showcase the beauty and rich cultural heritage refugees have brought with themselves. Beyond an exhibition, it is also a call to the audience to share in the process of reminiscing about homeland, which remains dear yet ever-distant. For it is through their art that refugees bring to life and reimagine the stories of those who came before them; and it is through these visualisations of reminiscence, that they call upon those to come, to hope for peace and a better future. After all, nostalgia, and the art that is a consequence of it, is the compass that helps one find their way back home.
