On the occasion of the 195th anniversary of the experimentation with photography, Unsealed Chamber: The Transient Image presents four contemporary artists – Indu Antony, Philippe Calia, Aparna Nori and Arpan Mukherjee who offer new excavations of interiority, tissues of awareness and explorations of deep memory/deep time. Subjective phantoms are lured to material surfaces through a complex reworking of media and its interfaces, mixing analogue and digital techniques to imprint images afresh on glass, paper and cloth.

A chamber of impressions is thereby invoked as Arpan Mukherjee, a teacher in Shantiniketan, traces relationships between migration and rupture, engaging his own family within a larger biographical narrative. Indu Antony invites us into the space of erasure through her portraits of anonymous women who meet our gaze from their nodes of existential silence. Philippe Calia’s memory-induced critique of environmental damage and anthropocene ferocity draws on satellite images for his reconstruction of segments of our violated planet. Aparna Nori scripts the density of psychic terrain via the enigmatic topographies of human skin.
