Alliance Française de Delhi in association with the embassy of Israel, the French Embassy in India and the United Nations will commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. The Holocaust refers to the state-sponsored annihilation of European Jews by the Nazi state and its allies in the period before and during the Second World War. The Nazis also targeted Gypsies, homosexuals, Slavs and political dissidents. The traumatic events of the Holocaust utterly scared and shaped the history and politics of the 21st century. The need to remember and commemorate the events is indisputable.

 

 

The events will take place in the Alliance Française Auditorium and Atrium.

 

6.30pm Welcome and visit of the UN exhibition in the Atrium.

6.45pmEntry into the Auditorium with a song in Yiddish or Hebrew by Yoni Avital (live).

6.50pmLighting of the candles in silence.

7.00pmUnited Nation Secretary General speech to be read by Mrs Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman, director of the UN Information Centre for India and Bhutan.

7.05pmSpeech of H.E. Mr. Alon Ushpiz, Ambassador of Israel to India.

7.10pmSpeech of H.E. Mr. François Richier, Ambassador of France to India.

7.15pmSong in Yiddish or Hebrew by Yoni Avital (live).

7.20pmAllocution of Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Hon’ble Member of Parliament and former Minister of State for External Affairs.
