William Dalrymple
In conversation with Somnath Batabyal
Tuesday, 11 October 2011, 6.30pm
M. L. Bhartia Auditorium, Alliance Francaise de Delhi

Alliance Française de Delhi and the French Embassy in India is proud to present the award-winning author, historian and travel writer, William Dalrymple as our October month guest on Writers, etc, who will be in conversation with talented writer Somnath Batabyal.

His first three books were ostensibly in the travel writing genre but were, in fact, detailed ethnographic histories of India, the Middle East and Central Asia. City of Djinns is as perfect an introduction to Delhi as any with its hilarious anecdotes, unforgettable characters and exquisite descriptions. His books have been translated into more than 30 languages worldwide! Co-founder of the Jaipur Literature festival, we look forward to a talk that will reveal yet more about a fascinating history.

Somnath Batabyal is presently Post Doctoral Fellow at the University of Heidelberg in Germany. A former journalist, he is interested in news production practices in Indian media. His new book, Making News in India: Star News and Star Ananda are in production and are being published by Routledge. Somnath is currently writing his first work of fiction.

Don’t miss this unique occasion of discovering this immensely talented and promising author. Watch for writers, etc. the first thursday of every month
